Dedicated to the memory of Mike aka "Doug"
This site is a tribute to Mike/Doug, who was born in Leicester on November 24, 1987. He is much loved and will always be remembered.
Mike sadly left us on 10.12.2022. He fought for a long time to find balance, safety and connectedness. This was a struggle that he could no longer continue with. Mike was profoundly spiritual, and in the last few years came to view death as something beautiful; a means to reconnect the soul to the universe in a way that brought peace.
Mike fostered very intense attachments to his friends. People were very special to him. Even when he was in contact with friends on a less frequent basis, he spoke of those he had met fondly and with great admiration. This means that if you were ever important to Mike, you remained important to Mike many years down the line. The loss of someone to suicide raises a great many questions, along with feelings of doubt, worry and guilt. Please be assured that Mike was very open about the people he loved. He appreciated everyone. Sadly Mike was troubled in a way that meant he could not find peace in this life, and he desperately wanted that. He is at peace now.
Mike was a generous soul. He felt desperately upset when he saw others in trouble, and he gave generously to charity, even when it was him that needed help.
The charities on this site are those which Mike was regularly donating to himself, and were a feature in his conversations right up until the days prior to his death. His hope was that everyone could have a safe place to call home and someone to talk to when they were suffering. He therefore supported the Samaritans and Shelter regularly.
We will always love Mike, and we wish all that knew him the love and peace that he wished for others and that we wished for him.
